Melamine Likely Part of the Food Chain

HONG KONG—Melamine is used in pesticides in China and may have been in the food chain for a long time, Reuters reported. 

Cyromazine, a derivative of melamine, is commonly used in China in pesticides. Plants absorb it, so it has likely become a part of our food chain.

"So it is not just in milk products, but also in farm products and animal feed, fish diet," Chan King-ming, associate professor of biochemistry at the Chinese University, told Reuters.
