More Mango Products Recalled Over Salmonella

WASHINGTONUnited Salad Co. is recalling various products made with mangoes that may be contaminated with Salmonella from retailers and supermarkets in five states, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The products are the latest in a slew of recalled products associated with a multistate Salmonella outbreak linked to Food Source and Agricola Daniella mangoes.
The Sept. 17 recall involves products that contain Food Source Tomorrows Tropical mangoes distributed to retailers and supermarkets from Sept. 1 to Sept. 17, 2012, in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.
The recall includes mango products including Zupans Island Medley; Marys Select Island Fruit Medley; Marys Select Fruit Mix Ensalada; United Salad Co. Mango Diced; United Salad Co. Mango Peeled Halves; Garden Highway Mango Salsa; Garden Highway Mango Spears; Marys Select Mango Salsa; Marys Select Tropical Salsa; Garden Highway Salsa Tropical Fresh; Trader Joes Tropical Fruit Medley ; and Marys Select Whole Mango.
The latest update from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 121 persons in 15 states have been infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Braenderup tied to Mexican mangoes. Since the outbreak began in August, 25 people have been hospitalized and no deaths have been reported.
On Sept. 14, FDA placed mangoes produced by Mexico-based Agricola Daniella and imported by Splendid Products on its import alert list and said it will deny the mangoes admission into the United States unless the importer can show they are not contaminated with Salmonella.
