NAREEE Advisory Board Announced

WASHINGTONAgriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the appointment of eight members and one alternate member to the National Agricultural Research, Extension, Education, and Economics (NAREEE) Advisory Board.

Operating under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Research, Education, and Economics (REE) mission area, REE is dedicated to the creation of a safe, sustainable, competitive U.S. food and fiber system.

Each NAREEE Advisory Board member represents a specific category related to agriculture.  These areas include farming, ranching, food production and processing, forestry research, crop and animal science, land-grant institutions, non-land grant colleges or universities with historic commitments to research in the food and agricultural sciences, food retailing and marketing, rural economic development, and natural resource and consumer interest groups, and others.

The following members were appointed for either a 1, 2, or 3-year term effective October 1, 2011 until September 30, 2014:

·        Jean-Mari Peltier, the former President of the National Council for Farmers Cooperatives and President of the National Grape & Wine Initiative in Sacramento, Calif., will represent Farm Cooperatives on the Board.

·        James P. Goodman, the owner of Northwood Farm in Wonewoc, Wis., will serve as an alternate representative of Farm Cooperatives.

·        Richard F. Schlosser, a farmer from Edgely, N.D., will represent Plant Commodity Producers.

·        James E. Parsons, a member of the National Aquaculture Association and Senior Vice President of Troutlodge, Inc., in Sumner, Wash., will represent National Aquaculture Associations.

·        Dr. Mark R. McLellan, a member of the Institute of Food Technologists and Vice President of Research & Dean of the School of Graduate Studies at Utah State University in Logan, will represent National Food Science Organizations.

·        Dr. Adriana Campa, a member of the American Dietetic Association/American Society of Nutrition and Associate Professor of Nutrition at Florida International University in Miami, will represent National Nutritional Science Societies.

·        Dr. Milo J. Shult, the Vice President for Agriculture-Emeritus for the University of Arkansas System, residing in Doss, Texas, will represent 1862 Land-Grant Colleges and Universities.

·        Chad Waukechon, the Dean of Community Programs at the College of Menominee Nation in Keshena, Wis., will represent 1994 Equity in Education Land-Grant Institutions.

·        Dr. Dawn Thilmany, a member of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association and Professor at Colorado State University's Department of Agriculture and Resource Economics in Fort Collins, Colo., will represent National Social Science Associations.
