New Food-Safety Recalls

S&S Foods LLC., Azusa, CA, is recalling approximately 153,630 lbs. of frozen ground beef products because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced. The problem was discovered through a joint epidemiological investigation by FSIS and the Virginia Department of Health, as well as product testing by the Virginia Department of Health. These ground-beef products were shipped to distribution centers located in Milwaukee, WI, and Allentown, PA. FSIS has received 11 reports of illnesses associated with consumption of this product. DBC, Inc., doing business as World Class Canapes, Inc., Wilmington, MA, is recalling approximately 285 lbs. of ready-to-eat chicken products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, reports FSIS. These ready-to-eat (RTE) chicken products were produced on July 30, 2008, and distributed to retail establishments in Massachusetts. The products were repackaged individually for consumer purchase. Consumers that may have purchased these RTE chicken products at retail establishments between July 31, 2008 and Aug. 2, 2008 are urged to check their refrigerators and freezers and discard them if found. The problem was discovered through microbiological sampling by FSIS. FSIS has received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of these products. See the FSIS website for all details.

Tyson Foods, Inc., Vicksburg, MS, is recalling approximately 51,360 lbs. of raw, frozen chicken breast tenderloin products because they may contain an undeclared allergen, soy, notes FSIS. The products contain soy, a known allergen, which is not declared on the label. The chicken breast tenderloin products were produced between July 23 and Aug. 1, 2008 and were shipped to Tyson foodservice distributors nationwide. The problem was discovered by the company.
