NPA to Host Natural Products Day in CA
June 11, 2013
WASHINGTONThe Natural Products Association (NPA) will host the 2nd Annual #California Natural Products Day in Sacramento on June 12 to discuss industry issues with attendees.
As one of the largest economies in the world, as well as home to many natural product companies, California plays a significant role in the industry. Companies in this state continue to face legislative and regulatory challenges, making it more important than ever to communicate with state senators and representatives. Natural products industry stakeholders will meet with California legislators during this event to discuss the issues that matter most to the industry.
NPA CEO John Shaw will lead the days activities, providing expert comment on key issues facing California consumers and businesses, including the labeling of genetically modified organisms, or GMOs. NPA recently called for a national standard on GMO labeling for foods, and Shaw will talk about why NPA took this vital position, as well as the importance of living a natural and healthy lifestyle.
In addition, Gov. Jerry Brown recently proposed reforms "to strengthen and restore the intent of Proposition 65 (The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986)," adding, "Proposition 65 is a good law that's helped many people, but it's being abused by unscrupulous lawyers." Shaw will discuss the impact this law has had on the ability of dietary supplement makers in California, and NPAs views on the proposed changes in the legislature.
