WASHINGTONCara Welch, Ph.D. will testify at an public hearing about rulemaking for the California Green Chemistry Initiative on Sept. 10. Welch is the Natural Products Association's senior vice president of scientific and regulatory affairs. She will present NPA's views on Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) regulations and their effects.

NPA remains concerned with the course of this rulemaking and the unfair burdens it places on businesses manufacturing products for sale in California and retailers operating in the state," Welch said.

She added the regulations are especially burdensome for small and mid-size companies." This process has been estimated to cost as much as $6 million, a heavy burden in an uncertain economy," she said. "Given this expense, products prioritized by DTSC for assessment will be removed from the market instead of reformulated."

In August, NPA announced a new webinar series, Regulatory Trainings Straight from Your Desk," including an education session about GMPs (good manufacturing practices) for own-label distributors, re-packagers and re-labelers. Upcoming webinars will be held on Oct. 16 and 18.
