Nutrient Database Now Portable
GOLDEN, Colo.--HealtheTech Inc., headquartered here, and theU.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have made a portable version of theNational Nutrient Database for handheld PDAs (personal digital assistants). Thedownload, which is free, was made possible through a Cooperative Research andDevelopment Agreement between HealtheTech and USDA's Nutrient Data Laboratory inBeltsville, Md. The database, available at www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp,takes about 30 seconds to download and uses up 2 MB of memory. The technologywas introduced at the American Dietetic Association's annual conference Oct. 21.
