Palatinose Approved as GRAS

MORRIS PLAINS, N.J.Palatinit (www.palatinit.com) filed GRAS(generally recognized as safe) notification with the Food and DrugAdministration (FDA) for the isomaltulose sweetener Palatinose. As part ofits consideration, FDA reviewed in vivo and in vitro studies that demonstratedisomaltulose is hydrolyzed and absorbed in the small intestine as glucose andfructose, as well as toxicological, metabolic and gastrointestinal tolerancestudies.

According to Palatinit, the FDAs letter of no objection paves theway for Palatinose to be used in a wide range of food and beverage products,including ready-to-drink and instant beverages, snack bars, dairy products, andenergy-reduced, wellness and sports foods and meal replacements.
