The recalled items were distributed along the East Coast in retail stores and repackaged at store level. The products were sold to Harris Teeter, Ingles, MDI (Merchants Distributors, Inc.) and US Foodservice.

The recall involves the following products with use by dates between Sept. 10 and Sept. 15, 2012: Maryland Crab Cake Bulk; Stuffed Salmon 8-count; Charl Crab Cake Bulk; Stuffed Tilapia 8-count; Crab Stuffing Bucket; Stuffed Flounder 8-count; Signature Lump Crab Cake; Devil Stuffed Crab 10-count; Carolina Style Crab Cakes 4-ounce; Devil Stuffed Crab 3-ounce; Carolina Style Crab Cakes .5-ounce; Premium Lobster Cake 3-ounce; and MD Crab Cakes - Value Tray Pack.

In late July, Gills Onions announced a recall of various onion products that might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Over the course of August, the company then expanded that recall almost daily to include diced, slivered and whole peeled onions, along with diced onion and celery mixes, distributed to Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Montana, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah and Washington. As a result, multiple companies issued recall notices in connection with products that used Gills Onions.
