NAPLES, FLStevia supplier Pyure Brands received Non-GMO (genetically modified organisms) Verified status for its organic tabletop stevia sweetener and commercial-grade stevia extracts. The company received the certification through the Non-GMO Project, and it can now display the verified badge on its packaged products.

An estimated 80 percent of food consumed in the United States contains GMOsorganisms that contain genetic material altered through engineering. Some believe consuming GMOs can cause health risks, and the topic is hugely controversial. In fact, California's Proposition 37  would require products to have GMO labeling.
