Daniel Fabricant, Ph.D., will be giving insights on FDA and the supplement industry at a talk at Ingredient Marketplace. I have a few questions. What are yours?

Daniel Fabricant’s move back to the supplement industry has created quite a stir.

After a three-year stint as the director of FDA’s division of dietary supplements, Daniel Fabricant, Ph.D., recently rejoined the Natural Products Association (NPA) as its CEO. And people have questions.

Here are a few of mine:

  • What insights can Fabricant provide to us now that he’s on “our side" again?

  • What’s in the next draft guidance on new dietary ingredient (NDI) notifications? I’m sure Fabricant has a sneak peek at the working draft.

  • While he was at FDA, how much say did he have in the agency’s direction, how much came from the Department of Health and Human Services and how much from the White House? This could help us predict if the new leader (once FDA finds a permanent replacement) will shift FDA’s focus.

I hope Fabricant will address these questions at Ingredient Marketplace, a SupplySide event, where he is giving his first presentation to industry since his return to NPA. In the presentation, “There & Back Again," Fabricant will give insights into going from NPA to FDA and back to NPA (he was vice president of global government and scientific affairs for NPA before he led FDA’s supplement division). He’ll give his view on what’s to come for industry and how industry can achieve its objectives.

What questions would you like Fabricant to answer? Send them to me ([email protected]) or leave them in the comments below. I happen to have an in with the event organizers, and perhaps we can get Fabricant to answer our questions. (Full disclosure: Ingredient Marketplace is hosted by VIRGO, which also publishes INSIDER.)

Be sure to register for Ingredient Marketplace and join me in New York on June 2 and 3. Fabricant’s presentation will be on Tuesday, June 3, at 9:30 to 10 a.m. at the Trends In stage (on the show floor), and is open to everyone who attends.
