PENNSAUKEN, N.J.R-Kane Products, Inc. is recalling all outstanding supplies of a protein supplement that contains allergens, according to FDA.

The product appears to have been marketed to doctors and their patients who struggled with obesity and underwent surgery to lose weight.

The allergens, soy and milk, were revealed on the outer box but not declared on the labels of the individuals packets of the product called Z PRO HIGH PROTEIN SUPPLEMENT, the food safety agency recently announced.

"People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy or milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products," FDA warned, although the agency stated no one has reported any illnesses to date.

Between Jan. 1, 2006 and Jan. 24, 2013, the product was distributed nationwide to bariatric centers and bariatric physicians who dispensed it to patients who had undergone bariatric surgery, according to FDA. The surgery changes the makeup of the digestive system, limiting the amount of food that can be digested.

FDA said products shipped after Jan. 24 contain the allergen disclosure on both the outer box packaging and individual inner packets of the product.

R-Kane Products of Pennsauken, N.J. didn't immediately respond late Monday to an emailed request for comment.

On its website, the company states it has been providing nutritional solutions to physicians and medical facilities for more than 30 years.
