Safeway Recalls Veggie Platters Over Tainted Tomatoes

PLEASANTON, Calif.Safeway expanded its voluntary recall of products containing grape tomatoes that may be contaminated with Salmonella to include Eating Right Veggie Party Platters, the company announced May 9.
The recall involves Eating Right Veggie Party Platter, UPC Code 79893-10708, sold between April 29 and May 7, 2011, with Best if Used By" dates ranging from May 9 to May 16, 2011. The veggie platters were packaged by Manns Packing using grape tomatoes sourced from grower Six Ls that were recalled last week due to possible Salmonella contamination. The products were sold at all Safeway and Safeway-owned stores, including Vons, Pavilions, Dominicks, Genuardis, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Carrs and Pak N Save stores.
The grocery chain last week recalled a variety of prepared and packaged salads, and fresh kabobs made with grape tomatoes supplied by Taylor Farms and sourced from Six L's.
