SFTA Names New Members, Board

PORTLAND, Ore.The Sustainable Food Trade Association (SFTA) announced additions to its Board of Directors, as well as the addition of four new members to its roster in the last quarter of 2012 bringing the total to almost 60 companies committed to integrating sustainability into the full realm of their business operations.

New members include EcoTeas, Ashland, Ore.; Guayaki, Sebastapol, Calif.; Hanover Consumer Coop, Hanover, N.H.; and Stonyfield Farm, Londonderry, N.H. Each member company commits to working toward improvement in 11 action areas, including organics, climate change, energy, distribution, labor, packaging, water, waste, animal care, education and governance.

SFTA also announced its new Board of Directors serving a 2-year term. Newly elected members include Britt Lundgren, Stonyfield Farm; Brionne (Bri) Saseen, Lundberg Family Farms; Isabelle Reining, Straus Family Creamery; and Tony White, Hanover Consumer Cooperative Society.

Nate Morr (organic and sustainability consultant) and Cecil Wright, Organic Valley were re-elected to the Board and will continue to serve with Jason Boyce, Natures Path; Shauna Sadowski, Annies; Jim Pierce, Oregon Tilth; Rebecca Thistlethwaite, Sustain Consulting; Natalie Reitman-White, Organically Grown Company; and Diana Crane, PCC Markets.

On Jan. 24, SFTAs Supply Chain Working Group announced a draft voluntary Organic Industry Code of Conduct that any organic business can adopt and use to provide guidance to their supply chain. Businesses in the organic food trade industry can adopt the code and measure themselves against it and share the information among all customers of that company.
