Slim-30 Supplement Recall Expanded
August 19, 2010
HICKSVILLE, N.Y.J & H Besta Corp. (dba Joyful Slim) is recalling an additional lot of its Slim-30 herbal supplement, after FDA testing found the product was also adulterated with pharmaceuticals approved by FDA for appetite suppression and weight loss. FDAs tests found desmethyl sibutramine in Lot 6032101 of Slim-30. The presence of the undeclared drug in a product marketed as a dietary supplement makes the product both adulterated and misbranded.
FDA noted sibutramine is know to increase blood pressure in some adults, and may present a serious health risk for users with a history of cardiovascular issues.
The original recall, announced in mid-July, involved one lot of the Slim-30 product and one lot of the Joyful Slim product; the company discontinued distribution of those lots, and has discontinued distribution of this additional lot. It is asking consumers to return the products to place of purchase for a refund. It noted it has not received any adverse event reports from users of the products. However, adverse reactions or quality problems associated with use of the product can be reported via FDAs MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting System.
