HICKSVILLE, N.Y.J & H Besta Corp. (dba Joyful Slim) announced a recall of certain lots of two dietary supplements marketed for weight loss, after FDA testing found the products were adulterated with certain pharmaceuticals approved by FDA for appetite suppression and weight loss. Slim-30 Herb Supplement (Lot 032009) was found in lab tests to contain undeclared N-desmethyl sibutramine and traces of sibutramine, while FDAs tests found desmethyl sibutramine in the Joyful Slim Herb Supplement (Lot 101408). The presence of the undeclared drugs in a product marketed as a dietary supplement makes the products both adulterated and misbranded.

J & H has discontinued distribution of the affected product lots, and is asking consumers to return the products to place of purchase for a refund. It noted it has not received any adverse event reports from users of the products.

FDA noted sibutramine is know to increase blood pressure in some adults, and may present a serious health risk for users with a history of cardiovascular issues. Adverse reactions or quality problems associated with use of the product can be reported via FDAs MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting System.
