Soy Infant Formula Investigated

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.--The Arkansas Childrens Nutrition Center (ACNC)is studying the long term effects of soy-based infant formula compared to humanbreast milk or cows milk, according to the U.S. Department of Agricultures(USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) (www.ars.usda.gov).The six-year study will investigate whether isoflavones in soy-based formulasmight disrupt or impair development in infants. Specifically, researchers willinvestigate whether soy-based formulas could accelerate puberty, causedevelopmental and reproductive abnormalities and thyroid disorders later inlife.

Previous ACNC research has found no apparent positive or negative effects ofsoy formula versus cows milk, according to ARS.
