U.S. Marshals Seize Ingredients from American Mercantile

MEMPHIS, Tenn.—U.S. Marshals, acting on behalf of FDA, seized more than $1.5 million worth of food ingredients from American Mercantile Corp.U.S. District Court, Memphis, issued a warrant after the company failed to correct problems noted in an FDA inspection of the company’s warehouse in March 2009, including extensive rodent and insect infestation. Among the seized ingredients were cornstarch, salt, sassafras, licorice powder and spearmint leaves.
