NOBLESVILLE, Ind.Verdure Sciences was awarded Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status for its product, Longvida® optimized curcumin. The status affirms Longvida as a safe additive to foods and beverages as an antioxidant.

The GRAS status determined safe usage levels of .2 to 1.25 percent of Longvida across various food and beverage categories. The product can be used in geriatric nutrition beverages, sports nutrition beverages, nutritional bars and baked goods, and processed fruits and vegetable products.

The determination also extends to Longvida SD, a different form which is water-dispersible for additional food and beverage applications. Verdure introduced Longvida in November 2010. In 2011, studies showed the product reduced brain aging proteins.
