Last year, China issued new draft regulations for a new category, called nutritional supplements. Per the draft regulations, nutritional supplements, which include vitamins and minerals, will follow a new approval process based on a notification-based system versus the standard registrational process used for other products in China, which can take up to three years for approval. During Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, California, March 4-8, Jeff Crowther, executive director, U.S.-China Health Products Association, discussed the new draft regulations, what these regulations mean for the supplement industry in China and how manufacturers can prepare for the changes the regulations will bring.
