AUSTIN, TexasWhole Foods Market recalled several batches of organic raw hazelnuts, also known as "filberts," due to possible contamination with Salmonella, reports Consumer Affairs. Whole Foods in California, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Washington recalled the hazelnuts, which were sold in bulk. The possible contamination was discovered during a routine sweep of one of the company's production facilities, and no illnesses have been reported, said Consumer Affairs.

This comes at the heels of a December 17 recall reported by FDA of 32,950 pounds of hazelnuts sold by Kunze Farms of Dayton, OR. It is unknown if these recalls are related.

Willamette Filbert Growers of Newberg, OR and Evonuk Oregon Hazelnuts of Eugene, OR have also recalled hazelnuts due to a possible Salmonella contamination.
