Yellow Fin Tuna Recalled Over Elevated Histamine

WASHINGTONRouses Markets, based in Thibodaux, La., is recalling previously frozen wild-caught yellow fin tuna steaks because they may contain elevated levels of histamine, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Feb. 4.

The recall involves frozen wild-caught yellow fin tuna steaks sold at Rouses Markets with sell by dates between Dec. 1, 2010, and Jan. 27, 2011, and a UPC code beginning with 208732. The wild-caught yellow fin tuna steaks were distributed to Rouses Markets in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Common symptoms of histamine or scromboid fish poisoning include tingling or burning sensation in the mouth, facial swelling, rash, hives and itchy skin, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.
