Zychrome Earns GRAS Status
July 10, 2012
BENICIA, Calif.InterHealth self-affirmed its Zychrome®, a chromium ingredient, as GRAS (generally recognized as safe), meaning it can now be marketed for use in food and beverages in the United States. Zychrome is a patent-pending chromium dinicocysteinate with toxicological studies that demonstrate its safety.
Documentation for a Zychrome GRAS determination was assembled by the Burdock Group. The process involved an intensive review of all safety and toxicology data by a panel of renowned United States scientific experts.
GRAS status for food and beverages opens the door for Zychrome to be included in an array of products, such as dietetic cookies and low-calorie candies, meal replacements and high-protein liquids and bars. Zychrome is soluble and application friendly for most foods and beverages, and is manufactured in the United States under GMP (good manufacturing practice) standards.
Peer-reviewed, randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled research was published in Molecular Nutrition & Food Research in June. Zychrome was shown to be twice as effective as chromium picolinate in improving insulin function.
