Coke: Radio Shows Recipe Not The Real Thing

ATLANTACoca-Cola is refuting a syndicated radio shows claim that one of the nations most guarded trade secrets actually appeared in a photo that accompanied an article about Coca-Colas original formula that was published in the Atlanta Journal-Constitutions Feb. 18, 1979, edition.

As reported by the Christian Science Monitor, NPRs "This American Life" host Ira Glass on Feb. 14 read aloud alleged ingredients that were found in a photo that showed pages from a notebook with a list of handwritten ingredients for the popular soft drink that was invented by Atlanta pharmacist John Pemberton in 1886.

According to the radio show, some of the secret ingredients that give Coke its unique taste include orange oil, lemon oil, nutmeg oil, coriander, neroli and cinnamon.

Executives at Coca-Cola, however, are saying the recipe is not the real thing", and the original recipe for "Merchandise 7X" formula is safe and secure in an Atlanta bank vault.
