Health Benefits of Vitamin K2 over K1: Improving Bone and CardiovascularHealth
LA MIRADA, Calif.Vitamin K is an essential cofactor for thesynthesis of proteins involved in bone formation and a calcification-inhibitingprotein in the arteries. Recent studies have shown that in the majority of thepopulation, vitamin K intake is too low to ensure optimal synthesis of theseproteins. In addition, trials have shown vitamin K2 is more effective than K1 insupporting this process. Vitamin K2 is a group of related compounds, includingMK-7, a long-chain menaquinone, that has been shown to provide optimal vitamin Kstatus for 24 hours at a dose of 50 mcg/d.
