PLYMOUTH, Wisc.Sargento introduced Portionables®, individually quick frozen (IQF) and portion-controlled pellets made using fresh ingredients and  seasonings. The way in which Portionables are produced allows manufacturers to control portion size, giving them the flexibility to add as little or as much as they need.

Portionables, including sauces, soups, beverages and other foodstuffs, are made using a proprietary process that allows the company to cook the sauces without risk of burning or scorching on the kettle jacket. The IQF technology preserves the fresh flavor, texture and color of the product, while eliminating the opportunity for bacterial growth. Typically, Sargento's sauces are cooled from cooking temperatures, and then completely frozen in as few as 10 minutes. Sargento is also able to add visual appeal to each IQF piece using fresh ingredients and flavorful seasonings. This technology is applicable to sauces, soups, desserts, side dishes, beverages and purees.

Each standard IQF piece is approximately 1-1/2-in. long, 3/4-in. thick and 1/2-in. wide, with an average weight of 0.2-oz. A smaller pellet is available that is approximately 3/8-in. thick, 3/4-in. wide and 1-in. long, with an average weight of 1/8-oz.
