NAFFS Announces Nutrition Industry Technical Seminar

NEPTUNE, N.J.In depth presentations on nutrition, food properties and health will be featured in a technical seminar, "Nutrition as a Lifestyle or Health Change," held by the National Association of Flavors and Food-Ingredient Systems (NAFFS) in conjunction with Rutgers University Department of Food Science on April 15, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J.

Following registration and refreshments at 9 a.m., the technical program will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will feature the following presentations:

  • Beata Smoron of PepsiCo Worldwide Flavors will present, "Our Survival Through Sustainable Supplythe Consumer Products Company Perspective." It will review the sourcing of sustainable flavor and aroma materials, emphasizing the critical role all members of the supply chain play in assuring consistent, ethical and quality supply of materials.

  • Steven Dimler of Abbott Nutrition will discuss "The Role of Proteins in Nutritional Products," highlighting different protein types and blends that offer opportunities to the product developer in the creation of shelf-stable, good-tasting beverages.

  • Michael Rogers, Ph.D., of Rutgers University, will present "Applications of Nanotechnology in Flavor Chemistry," discussing advantages and pitfalls in food nanotechnology.

  • Diane Sanfilippo, New York Times best-selling author and certified nutrition consultant will discuss "The Paleo Approach to Nutrition."

  • Swetha Mahadevan of Rutgers University will present "New Application of High Pressure Processing to Make Nutrient-Enhanced Foods."

The program will conclude with a networking lunch and at 2 p.m., an optional tour of the Rutgers University Food Science Department. Registration is $85 for NAFFS members and $109 for non-members.
