Supercritical Fluid Technologies ~ SFT-NPX-10 Supercritical Extractor
April 20, 2012
NEWARK, Del.Supercritical Fluid Technologies (SFT) introduced a new pilot scale supercritical extractor for the processing of natural products. The SFT-NPX-10 is designed to simplify the extraction of natural products as well as facilitate the transition from laboratory scale equipment to production and processing systems.
The extractor performs supercritical fluid extractions in either single or dual 10-liter sample vessels with single or dual separators. The Coriolis mass flow meter allows for precise mass flow measurement, while a pneumatic CO2 pump with an integral waterless pre-chiller is used to maximize pumping efficiency. Upgrades to a RIO programmable automation controller for automated pressure, temperature and process cycle regulation is also available.
Supercritical CO2 allows for beneficial extraction on botanicals, herbs, spices and other natural product materials over traditional liquid solvents. The new process eliminates the need to perform distillation since, upon dropping pressure, the CO2 becomes a gas and leaves the extracted material in its natural state. CO2 may be vented or optionally recycled.
In December 2011, SFT debuted its SFT-110, a bench top model of supercritical fluid extractor.
