SAINT CLAIR SHORES, Mich.TheHuman Products Division of Albion Advanced Nutrition announced its Ferrocheliron amino acid chelate is now being used to fortify rice. According to theannouncement made at Food Ingredients South America in August, Blue Ville ofBrazil has developed an exclusive technology using Ferrochel to fortify rice. The unique chemical characteristics of Ferrochel allow it tobe added to rice in such a way that it does not negatively affect the taste orappearance of the grain, according to the company (www.albion-an.com). Blue Ville plans to sell a Ferrochel-fortified riceconcentrate to other rice companies throughout Latin America, and the rice isbeing marketed at the same price as the non-fortified rice in Brazil.
