DSM Consolidates Vitamin C Production

HEERLEN, NetherlandsDSMNutritional Products is consolidating production of bulk ascorbic acid (vitaminC) into its Dalry, Scotland, facility; the move means DSM will close its vitaminC plant in Belvidere, N.J.The company is also planning to implement severalmeasures to reduce costs and increase raw material flexibility, while alsoexploring different sourcing options, including possible Chinese alliances.Closure of the Belvidere ascorbic acid plant is set for the fall of 2005;approximately 150 people will be let go. The formulation plant there will beadjusted to work on different product formulations for the North Americanmarket. DSM will continue to produce its other products at its Belvidere site,including formulations for other vitamins and arachidonic acid (ARA) for infantformula.
