BASEL, Switzerland—Lonza Group Ltd. acquired the assets of Shawinigan, Canada-based S.A.M. Electronic Technologies; the acquisition is concurrent with an exclusive worldwide license for a specialty technology from Hydro-Quebec and lease agreement with the city of Shawinigan. The business will be run as a wholly-owned and operated subsidiary of Lonza Canada Inc.
The technology, CeTECH™, can be used to produce a range of compounds, including more environmentally-friendly, commercial-scale production of vitamin K3. According to Lonza (www.lonza.com), the plant’s current production capacity of 400 metric tons/year of K3 can be rapidly expanded.
