Roche Opens New Premix Facility

JAGUAR, Brazil--Roche Vitamins and FineChemicals Division announced the opening of a new food premix facility here. Thestate-of-the-art facility will produce approximately 2,000 tons of vitamin andmineral premixes per year, both for the Brazilian food and pharma industries andfor export to other South American countries. The facility will have ISO, GMP(good manufacturing practices) and HACCP certifications, as well as an on-siteanalytical laboratory. The premix plant supports the Nutrix concept developed inLatin America for the food and pharmaceutical industries, according to Roche.The custom-made nutritional blends (Nutrix) are often used as branded productsin fortified foods or nutritional supplements, or are included in staple foodfortification programs.

In additional company news, Roche announced it has finalized anagreement with the Lonza Group to be a distributor of Lonza Niacin USP in theUnited States. Under terms of the agreement, Lonza discontinued direct sales anddistribution of its Niacin USP food fortification product, and became Roche'ssole supplier of Niacin USP for food use in the United States.
