Drinking Skim Milk Increases Satiety

PERTH, Australia—Consumption of skim milk, in comparison with a fruit drink, leads to increased perceptions of satiety and to decreased energy intake at a subsequent meal, according to a new study published in the July issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Researchers in Australia studied 34 overweight men and women and found drinking fat-free milk in the morning increased satiety and led to decreased calorie intake at lunch, as compared with a fruit drink. The milk drinkers ate about 50 fewer calories at lunch.
