SAN DIEGOGreen coffee beans just got a bit sweeter as new research shows they can boost weight loss in a short amount of time. According to new research presented at the 243rd National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS), overweight and obese subjects lost about 10 percent of their body weight after consuming green coffee bean extract for 22 weeks.

Based on our results, taking multiple capsules of green coffee extract a daywhile eating a low-fat, healthful diet and exercising regularlyappears to be a safe, effective, inexpensive way to lose weight," Joe Vinson, Ph.D., University of Scranton in Pennsylvania., said in a statement.

In the crossover study, 16 patients took either low- or high-dose green coffee bean extract capsules (700 of 1,050mg, respectively) or a placebo, each for six weeks. After 22 weeks, participants averaged 17 pounds lost, amounting to a 10.5-percent decrease in body weight. Previous studies have documented weight loss success, and Vinson attributed it to chlorogenic acid, a substance present in green coffee beans, but not roasted ones.

Green coffee bean extract shot up in weight management success in the past year, partially due to a helpful Dr. Oz endorsement. Learn more about the science behind the ingredient in the SupplySide Science Tour Green Coffee Bean Extract Webinar.
