MINNEAPOLISCargill developed a non-caloric erythritol sweetener called Zerose® erythritol for use as a replacement for xylitol and sorbitol in formulating oral care products. Results of a 3-year clinical trial found Zerose® erythritol was more effective at preventing dental cavities and reducing plaque formation than xylitol and sorbitol. It is close in taste, sweetness and mouthfeel to sugar.
