SSE09: Synergized Ingredient Combos for Weight Loss
April 27, 2009
SECAUCUS, N.J.—Consumers don’t become obese overnight, nor from just a single decision—not exercising, eating fast food, battling stress; instead, synergistic effects take a toll on the body, interacting at the same time with ingrained physiological processes that can undermine even the most dedicated weight loss efforts. During SupplySide East, Harry Preuss, M.D., Georgetown University, provided attendees with a look at the various ways the body works in concert to hold on to fat stores, and why using various nutritional compounds with differing effects is the most efficacious way to assist in weight loss efforts.
Preuss suggested formulators develop products with that exert different types of effects—enhance thermogenesis, suppress appetite, block carbohydrate digestion—to provide consumers with synergistic support for the range of “roadblocks” in the way to finding a healthy weight. Among the ingredients he reviewed were green tea, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), chromium, banaba leaf and Phaseolus vulgaris.
